Shooting Investigation Leads To Victim In ER, The Shooter Is At Large

The victim was stabilized at Mount Vernon Hospital and then taken to Jacobi Hospital for further treatment.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Police rushed to the scene of reports of a shooting, but at first, the victim was nowhere to be found.

The Mount Vernon Police Department says that it is actively investigating a shooting that took place on Thursday afternoon, at the intersection of 1st Ave. and 3rd St.

Officers initially responded to multiple calls about gunshots in the area. Once on the scene, they discovered two nine-millimeter shell casings. They then received a phone call from the Mount Vernon Hospital Emergency Room informing them that a gunshot victim was there.

The victim was stabilized at Mount Vernon Hospital and then he was promptly transported to Jacobi Hospital for further treatment, according to officials.

Police say that the investigation is ongoing, and that they are working diligently to gather information and identify the individuals involved.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510. Police say all calls will be kept confidential. Anonymous tips can also be sent via MVPD's "Text-A-Tip" by texting "MVPD" and the tip to 847411. Information can also be sent anonymously using the "Mount Vernon PD" app, available in the Google Play and Apple stores.
