Teen Who Fired Shots Near Gun Violence Awareness Event Arrested: MVPD

He has been charged with second degree attempted murder and second degree criminal possession of a weapon.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — The teenager accused of firing shots as a community gathered for an event to raise awareness about gun violence was taken into custody.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, 18-year-old Jayden Campbell, of Mount Vernon, was arrested in the Bronx, in connection with the shooting that took place last Friday, at 42 West 4th Street, opposite the Doles Center rear yard.

A gun violence awareness event was being held at the location when Mount Vernon police, who were already in the area for the event, witnessed shots being fired. They immediately pursued the suspect, but he managed to get away.

No victims had been reported, and there was no evidence of property damage from the incident, police said at the time.

Campbell has been charged with second degree attempted murder and second degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently being held with bail set at $70,000 cash, $150,000 bond, or $250,000 partially secured bond.

The Mount Vernon Police Department thanked the NYPD for their cooperation and assistance in capturing the suspect.

Information can also be sent anonymously using the "Mount Vernon PD" app, available in the Google Play and Apple stores.
