Troopers Say Taser Used To Stop Fleeing Suspect Found With Ghost Gun

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Mount Vernon man who tried to avoid being taken into custody after a traffic stop was unsuccessful in his efforts, according to troopers, who say that a "ghost gun" is off the streets as a result.

The New York State Police and the Mount Vernon Police Department say that they arrested Jarrod Harris for illegal possession of a handgun, after a traffic stop.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, police stopped a 2021 Nissan Altima on South Fourth Avenue. While officers spoke to the driver, passenger Jarrod Harris, 24, of Mount Vernon, fled on foot.

After a brief struggle nearby which ended with the use of a taser, Harris was taken into custody. Officers found him to be in illegal possession of a Polymer80 with Patmos 9MM slide "ghost gun."

Harris was arrested for felony second degree criminal possession of a weapon, felony criminal possession of a firearm, misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and misdemeanor unlawful ammunition feeding device.

He was arraigned before the city of Mount Vernon Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond.
