New City Man Accused In Driveway Stabbing Of Ramapo Resident

Arrested after a 48-hour investigation, the 23-year-old faces four charges including attempted murder.

RAMAPO, NY — A New City man accused of stabbing a Ramapo resident in his driveway Thursday was arrested Saturday, Ramapo police announced.

Ramapo police detectives charged Elijah Dean, 23, with Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree.

Dean was arraigned in Ramapo Town Court where bail was set at $1 million cash, or $5 million fully secured bond, or $10 million partially secured bond. A stay-away order was also issued by the judge. Dean was transported to the Rockland County Jail. He is due back in court April 18.

The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition and is expected to survive, Ramapo Police Capt. Daniel Hyman said.

He was found at 8:37 p.m. Thursday by Ramapo police officers responding to Trailside Place for a reported assault involving a knife.

Officers were told the man had been accosted in his driveway by a stranger and stabbed multiple times about his body, including his head and neck. The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance in serious condition, police said.

In nearly 48 hours of tireless investigative efforts, Ramapo Police Investigations Division worked closely with the department's detective assigned to the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and his team, as well as the Spring Valley Police Department Detective Bureau, police officials said. Ramapo PD would also like to thank the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office and the Clarkstown Police Department for their assistance.
