ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — New Jersey sex offender Brian Reed, who faced federal charges after a 2022 predator sting in Rockland County, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced Tuesday.

The 36-year-old tried to hook up with an investigator with the Rockland County’s District Attorney’s Office who was working in an undercover capacity and posing as a 13-year-old girl on an online platform.

During the communications, Reed requested sexually explicit photos and asked to meet for sex. He described the sexual things he wanted to do, prosecutors said. When asked if he was “ok w my age,” prosecutors said Reed responded, "Yes of course."

Reed was on the New Jersey sex offender registry after a conviction in 2016 on the charge of endangering the welfare of a child through sexual conduct. However, he is not on the online registry, which excludes any information about offenders determined to present a low risk of re-offense.

Reed pleaded guilty to the federal charge of attempted enticement of a minor on Oct. 23, 2023. In addition to the 15-year prison term, Reed was sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release.

Williams praised the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Rockland County Sherriff’s Office, and the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office in connection with this investigation.
