3 Fake Utility Workers Force Way Into LI Home: Police

The homeowner was thrown to the floor before the men fled, police said.

NORTH HILLS, NY — Three men, dressed as utility workers, claimed to be checking on a gas leak when they appeared at a residence on Folie Court in North Hills.

The men wore fluorescent jackets, hard hats, gloves and face masks when the home's male caretaker, 35, answered the door just before 11:30 a.m. Monday, police said.

The men forced their way inside while brandishing a small black handgun, police said.

Once inside, they located the homeowner, a 69-year-old woman, threw her to the ground and held her in place, authorities said.

As the woman started screaming the men fled toward Shelter Rock Road with an undetermined amount of items. No one was injured.
