Tip About Dead Body Hidden In New Rochelle Home Leads To Murder Charge

Investigators believe the body was that of the roommate of the New Rochelle woman who was arrested at an Elmsford hotel.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police say a tip about a dead body hidden in a New Rochelle home led to murder charges against a 40-year-old woman.

On Friday, the New Rochelle Police Department received a report that a dead body was seen by a witness in a third-floor apartment of a multifamily home on Franklin Ave. New Rochelle detectives went to the scene and found the dead body of a woman believed to be in her twenties in the apartment.

Detectives soon took a person of interest into custody at a hotel in Elmsford.

The identity of the dead woman is still under investigation, but investigators believe that the woman might have been the roommate of the woman taken into custody. Detectives are working closely with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Medical Examiner to determine the identity of the victim.

The person of interest, who is the resident of the apartment where the body was found, is now supected of causing the death of the victim and has been charged, police said Monday evening.

Kenya M. Tilford has been charged with second degree murder. The 40-year-old New Rochelle woman is also charged with felony concealment of a human corpse.

The case is still an active investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the New Rochelle Police Department at 914-654-2300. New Rochelle police thanked the Tarrytown Police Department and the Elmsford Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
