2014 'Banner Year' For Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary

The Auxiliary currently has about 300 members and is still seeking volunteers.

The Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary surprised Paul J. Connor III, President and CEO at year end with a check in the amount of $66,000 bringing total Auxiliary contributions for 2014 up to $378,000.

“This is a banner year for the Auxiliary,” states Paul J. Connor III. “Thanks to the hard work and dedication of its members, the annual Auxiliary contribution continues to climb.”

The ELIH Auxiliary is nearly 300 members strong and contributes approximately 25,000 volunteer hours annually.

Volunteers work in the hospital and at the Opportunity Shop on Main Street in Greenport.

Since the renovation and expansion of the Opportunity Shop in 2013, donations of gently used merchandise have increased inventory and sales are up. You can find virtually anything there from books to glassware or china; and furniture to designer apparel.

Eastern Long Island Hospital is in need of volunteers looking for short term assignments at the Hospital and the Opportunity Shop during the winter months.

“A large number of volunteers head for warmer climates in January, February and March,” notes Toni DeMeo, Volunteer Services Coordinator.

“If you are here this winter and want to volunteer a few hours a week, we could really use your help.”
