HAVERSTRAW, NY — A Haverstraw man has pleaded guilty to two felonies in a sex abuse case involving two local children who alerted out-of-state relatives to their plight.

Starting in the summer of 2021 and throughout the course of the next two years, Alejandro Perez subjected two children —the younger was 11, and the elder was 14 when the abuse began — to sexual abuse on multiple occasions, prosecutors said. The sexual abuse consisted of oral sexual conduct as well as sexual contact under their clothing.

Both victims were brave enough to speak out to other family members who lived out of state and were able to notify law enforcement in Atlanta, Georgia, said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II.

The investigation was initiated by the Haverstraw Police Department, with the assistance of the City of Atlanta Police Department and the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit.

"Children are our most precious resource, and we must do everything we can to protect them. No child should ever be victimized by an adult they trust," Walsh said. "We will continue to support the courageous victims as this is another step in the healing process. This case sends a clear message that if you commit heinous crimes against children, you will be held fully accountable for your actions."

Perez, 34, pleaded guilty to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree (Class B Felony) and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Class D Felony) before the Honorable Anne B. Bianchi on April 16.

He is scheduled for sentencing on July 30. He will be sentenced to 11 years in state prison along with 10 years post-release supervision and will have to register as a sex offender, prosecutors said.
