Man Hid Human Remains Found On Long Island: Police

The human remains were found along a highway on Thursday, police say. A man faces tampering and concealment of human corpse charges.

EAST PATCHOGUE, NY — A Patchogue man was arrested in connection with hiding a corpse and tampering with evidence after human remains were found in East Patchogue on Thursday, Suffolk police said.

Human remains were discovered along Montauk Highway near County Road 101 at 4:30 p.m. Thursday by Fifth Squad detectives, police said. The remains were brought to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner for an autopsy and identification, police said.

Garry Cowell, 72, was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence and concealment of a human corpse following an investigation by Homicide Squad and Fifth Squad detectives, police said.

Cowell is set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
