PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Port Washington residents approved a 2024-25 school budget on Tuesday and elected three trustees to the Board of Education from a wide field of candidates.

The $194.6 million proposed budget was approved with 70.19 percent of the vote. The budget comes with a 3.39 percent hike in the school tax levy. That is over the state's tax cap for the district so the budget needed to be approved by 60 percent of the voters.

Trustees Adam Smith, Adam Block and Nanette Melkonian sought re-election. They were challenged by Sandra Alvarez, Teodora Choolfaian, Michael Bitalvo, Elizabeth Weisburd and Joseph Delerme.
