ISLANDIA, NY — Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday signed off on legislation, moving forward a plan for 1,000 new gaming terminals at Jake's 58 — doubling the number of machines allowed under state law, officials told Newsday.

Suffolk OTB will begin constructing a building next to Jake's as part of a $200 million expansion, but it won't be finished for another two years, Executive Director Phil Boyle told the outlet Thursday.

The casino is one of New York's most successful virtual gaming facilities since it opened in February 2017, according to the outlet.

The new terminals will be welcomed because Jake's 58 is regularly packed with visitors, Boyle told the outlet.

Patch has reached out to Hochul's office, as well as Boyle for comment.

Boyle recently told Patch that the renovation would see Jake's 58 upgrade its 200 rooms and create a sports bar where the bistro is. Suffolk OTB is partnering with a "large mobile sports betting organization," but the organization couldn't share which one yet.

Jake's 58 opened with 275 video lottery terminals and has since added 725 more within three months, Long Island Business News reported. The facility grosses over $254 million in gaming revenue annually.
