Suffolk County Principal Duck-Taped To Gym Wall When Students Raise $15K

Tamarac Elementary School students surpassed their $1o,000 goal for the Harlem Wizards' WizFit Challenge.

HOLTSVILLE, NY — A Sachem Central School District principal recently allowed herself to be duct-taped to a gym wall after her students surpassed a $10,000 fundraising goal, instead raising $15,000 as part of a fitness-based fundraiser with the Harlem Wizards, district officials said.

Tarmac Elementary School Principal Brenda Almendarez-DeBello allowed the deed to be done when the students finished raising money for the school and its Parent-Teacher Association as part of the WizFit challenge.

Harlem Wizards partnered with Tamarac Elementary School, encouraging students to collect donations while learning about fitness and character education.

As part of the challenge, students watched interactive videos where they learned basketball tricks and activities coached by members of the Harlem Wizards, and the fundraiser culminated in a visit by members of the team to the school for a performance.

During the show, students took part in dances, and watched teachers showcase their basketball skills.
