Suffolk Cop Warms Newborn Baby After Mom's Roadside Birth On Sunrise Highway In Holbrook

He kept the 26-year-old North Bellport mom's infant's vitals stable in the biting cold while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

HOLBROOK, NY — A highway patrol officer helped a 26-year-old North Bellport woman who gave birth to an infant girl at the side of Sunrise Highway on Wednesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

Officer Jesse Wenk had been responding to a 911 call of a woman who delivered a baby in her car on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway, just west of Exit 50, around 4:30 p.m., according to police.

Wenk helped the woman warm the baby with a jacket, ensuring her vitals were stable while waiting for the Holbrook Fire Department's ambulance to arrive, police said.

Both the mom and her newborn baby were taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for evaluation, and they are now doing well, according to police.
