Smithtown Man Possessed Weapons, Fireworks; Gets Arrested: Police

Police say they confiscated two assault rifles, two handguns, several high capacity feeding device, bullets, fireworks and firework cakes.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A man was arrested Thursday in connection with possession of weapons and fireworks in Smithtown, Suffolk police said.

Officers executed a search warrant at a Pia Boulevard home around 2:40 p.m., police said. The homeowner, Christopher Giancola, 52, had "several weapons and illegal fireworks" in his home, police said after performing an investigation.

Police said they confiscated two assault rifles, two handguns, several high capacity feeding devices and bullets. They also confiscated 15 boxes of fireworks, containing approximately 100 mortars, and two firework cakes, police said.

Giancola was charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon, five counts of second-degree criminal contempt, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and one count of possession of fireworks.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
