Animal Hospital Break-In Was Bathroom Break, Rain Shelter: Carmel PD

A woman has been charged with possession of burglar tools and trespass, police said.

CARMEL, NY — The owner of the Mahopac Animal Hospital called Carmel police about a possible overnight burglary April 12.

The owner of the business, who was able to provide video surveillance footage of an unknown person inside the Mahopac Animal Hospital for several hours.

Carmel detectives learned from the business owner that nothing appeared to be stolen from the business and there did not appear to be any damage to the structure.

While canvassing the surrounding area, Det. Brian Smith found a woman who fit the description of the subject observed in the surveillance video. She admitted to unlawfully entering the animal hospital overnight in order to get out of the rain and use the bathroom, police said.

Vaune J. Vaccaro was charged with two misdemeanors: criminal trespass in the third degree and possession of burglar tools. The 56-year-old was processed and released with an appearance ticket.
