Good Samaritan also helps save woman who drove into the water at the Bay Shore Marina.
A Suffolk County Police officer, with assistance from a good Samaritan, pulled a 97-year-old woman from her vehicle after it became submerged in the water in Bay Shore Saturday afternoon.
Third Precinct patrol officers responded to the Bay Shore Marina, located at the end of Clinton Avenue, at 1:11 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a female drove into the water. Upon arrival, officer Nicholas Aspromgos discovered that a vehicle was under water and an elderly woman was inside with water up to her neck. The windows in the vehicle were rolled up and the doors were locked.
Aspromgos broke the window and pulled the woman out of the vehicle. With assistance from a good Samaritan, the officer lifted the woman to the dock. Members of the Marine Bureau also responded to pull the vehicle from the water.
