Website Ranks Top Public High Schools on Long Island

In a recently released report, Niche.com ranked public high schools across the country, with 35 Long Island schools making the list of the top 100 in New York.

Niche says it used a detailed set of methods to rank 14,431 schools nationwide and collected 4.6 million opinions from 280,000 students and parents.

Here are the Long Island high schools that made the top 100 list in New York (click the links for more details on each school’s ranking):

• No. 28- Harborfields High School
• No. 35- Westhampton Beach Senior High School
• No. 38- Oyster Bay High School
• No. 41- Garden City High School
• No. 42- Half Hollow Hills High School East
• No. 47- North Shore Senior High School
• No. 49- Pierson Middle/High School
• No. 51- Mineola High School
• No. 52- George W. Hewlett High School
• No. 55- Herricks High School
• No. 57- Half Hollow Hills High School West
• No. 58- East Hampton High School
• No. 64- Wheatley School
• No. 65- Southampton High School
• No. 69- Oceanside High School
• No. 71- Carle Place Middle Senior High School

According to Niche, a high ranking includes the following criteria:

• Students are very happy with their experience in all aspects including academics, teachers, health, safety, resources, facilities, extracurriculars, sports, and fitness;
• District schools are exceptional academic institutions in terms of teachers, students, resources for learning, and student outcomes;
• District schools are made up of a diverse population and fosters an accepting, positive school culture;
• Students are actively involved in a variety of extracurriculars and sports the district offers.
