Beacon Woman Steals Merch, Hides It In Baby Stroller: Police

Authorities said there was a 10-month-old child in the stroller at the time.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Dutchess County woman was accused of stealing merchandise from a sporting goods store and hiding in a baby stroller.

The Yorktown Police Department said Jaznia Mccrae, 24, of Beacon, was accused and charged Jan. 23 with petit larceny and endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors.

Police said, shortly after 1 p.m. Jan. 23, officers responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Jefferson Valley Mall for a report of theft that just occurred.

Authorities said she stole assorted merchandise worth more than $104 and concealed it in a baby stroller that had a 10-month-old child in it also.

The description of Mccrae’s vehicle was sent to surrounding police agencies in an effort to locate it.

Around 5:40 p.m. the same day, Putnam County sheriff’s personnel stopped her vehicle on Route 9D and she was arrested.

After Mccrae was processed in Putnam County, a Yorktown officer was sent to take her into custody.

Following processing at the Yorktown Police Headquarters, she was issued an appearance ticket and released on her own recognizance to return to Yorktown Justice Court Feb. 8.
