Yorktown Teen Tries To Get Away During Officer Pursuit: Police

The 16-year-old was charged as a juvenile with the underlying charge of unlawful fleeing from a police officer, a misdemeanor.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Yorktown Heights teen was accused of trying to get away from a pursuing police officer.

The Yorktown Police Department said a 16-year-old Yorktown Heights boy was charged March 27 with juvenile delinquency with the underlying charge being third-degree unlawful fleeing from a police officer, a misdemeanor. He was also charged with speed in zone, disobey a traffic control device and unlicensed operator, traffic infractions.

According to police, shortly before 1:30 a.m. March 27, an officer on routine patrol said he saw a car speeding on Route 202.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle by activating his emergency lights, but the car attempted to drive away at a high rate of speed, crossing over the double yellow line in the roadway.

Police said the car crashed shortly after, and the teen who was driving was handcuffed at the scene.

After an investigation, the officer determined the teenager was driving without a license.

The teen’s guardian was notified and responded to police headquarters to be present during processing.

Police said the teen was released to a legal guardian and is due to appear in the Westchester County Department of Probation Tuesday. He is also due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court April 16 to answer the traffic tickets that were issued.
