Groundbreaking Nears For New Penn State Abington Building

Construction is set to begin on a new state-of-the-art building at Penn State Abington, the first new building on the campus in 50 years.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —The groundbreaking of Penn State Abington's first academic building in more than 50 years takes place later this week.

The Penn State Board of Trustees approved plans to construct the new academic building during its July 19 meeting.

The three-story, 85,554-square-foot building will house state-of-the-art learning and collaborative workspaces that support students preparing for careers in a rapidly evolving workforce.

Construction is expected to begin sometime this month. The proposed total project budget is $68 million.

It will feature 17 classrooms, four laboratories, art studio space, faculty offices, and student support spaces.

Margo DelliCarpini, Penn State Abington's former chancellor who transitioned to vice president for Commonwealth Campuses and executive chancellor last year, shepherded the project through its final planning phases.
