BeautIfying Norristown: Schuylkill River Trail Cleanup

The Norristown Project is improving the borough, one piece of trash at a time.

A cleanup of the Schuylkill River Trail in Norristown will take place near the Haws Avenue entrance on July 18 at 2 p.m.

The event, which is organized by The Norristown Project, will conclude at 5 p.m. near the US-202 bridge.

“The goal of this project is to promote development on Norristown’s portion of the Schuylkill River Trail and add beauty to the community,” event organizers said.

Volunteers of all ages are needed to cut weeds, remove graffiti, and clean up trash and debris.

Workers will also create a pop-up drink and cooling station for bikers and runners passing by.

The Norristown Project hopes that the station, along with tracking data of the number of people served by the trail, will help bring attention to the abandoned retail store along the trail. Event organizers are hoping it’s purchased by an investor.

Tools and supplies will be available, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own if they’d like. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring flowers to plant along the trail.

The Norristown Project was created in 2013 by Norristown native Shae Ashe, who wanted to improve the reputation and character of Norristown.

Cleanups are held across Norristown’s parks neighborhoods throughout the year.
