Norristown Residents Declare 'Coffee With a Cop' A Success

"(We are) building relationships one cup at a time."

Norristown residents that attended the police department’s second ‘Coffee with a Cop’ event of the year on Tuesday morning enjoyed the experience, and residents from other towns said they wished their own departments would host similar events.

“(We are) building relationships one cup at a time,” the police department said on Facebook.

“It’s awesome,” said resident Kristen O’Connor DiFiore. “Love the community outreach effort that Norristown Police have demonstrated.”

The event was held from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Dunkin Donuts on the corner of Johnson Highway and Markley Street on Tuesday.

The event gave residents the chance have a cup of coffee with Norristown officers and learn more about their local law enforcement officers.

It’s part of an effort by Norristown Police Chief to change perceptions of law enforcement from enforcer to protector.

“This is what real police work is all about: building strong relationships with all community members,” the police said on their Facebook page.

The event even drew some jealousy from out of towners.

“Mahwah PD, take notes,” said Richard Silagyi, a New Jersey resident.

It has not yet been announced if a third event is in the works.
