He attributed the district’s accomplishments over the last decade due to the commitment of everyone to make sure all of the students belong and are encouraged.

“Phoenixville is a very special community, and I know I will truly miss the friendships and yes, even the challenges we have faced together,” Fegley said,

Fegley began his job as superintendent of the district, which now has six schools and about 4,000 students, in 2010.

Here are some of Fegley's accomplishments:

  • Overseeing the building of the new Middle School and the Manavon/Early Learning Center.
  • Leading the district to push back the school start time by 30 to 45 minutes in 2019-2020.
  • Working with the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation to create the HUB – a group of approximately 30 social service agencies that meet every three weeks to support the social and emotional needs of Phoenixville students
  • Expanded dual-enrollment programs with area universities and community colleges

Fegley grew up in Chester County.

He earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania; master’s degrees at Temple Unversity and the University of Pennsylvania; and a doctorate degree at the University of Delaware in Educational Leadership.

He began his professional career as a special educator at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Prior to coming to Phoenixville, he spent 18 years in the Haddonfield, N.J. public school system, serving as an elementary principal, middle school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent of schools for the final three years.

The school board has hired a superintendent search firm, Hazzard, Young, Attea Assoc., based in Schaumburg, Ill., to help find a new superintendent.
