73-Year-Old Man Attacked On Downtown Pittsburgh Street

A 73-year-old man was the latest victim in a spate of violence in Downtown Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly attacking a 73-year-old stranger on a busy Downtown street.

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Smithfield Street around 12 p.m. The victim told officers he was walking down Fourth when he was approached by a man. The victim attempted to run away, but was pursued and then struck in the head.

The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police reviewed surveillance footage of the incident, identified the suspect and arrested him.

Jameel Huff, 24, was charged with aggravated assault and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

The incident was the second this month of someone allegedly being attacked by a stranger on a Downtown street.

On June 6, Shurontaya Festa, 27, was charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. She is accused of assaulting Sofia Mancing, 18, of Butler, from behind as Mancing walked on Smithfield Street near Strawberry Way - a site of numerous incidents requiring a police presence in recent months.
