West Bay Community Theater to present “GREASE” – IN CONCERT, One Night Only
North Kingstown, RI – West Bay Community Theater will present an in-concert production of the classic 50’s musical GREASE on Saturday, August 17th at 7:30pm on the North Kingstown Town Beach.
This production of GREASE-IN CONCERT is music-focused, with minimal staging, in addition to multimedia support (live video enhancement and show-related imagery). All music will be live with no pre-recorded and/or backing tracks. WBCT’s production has secured the rights to all of the “movie songs” (songs such as “Grease”, “You’re the One That I Want” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You” that are not part of the original stage version), offering a full-on GREASE experience!
For those who have attended West Bay’s summer productions (HAIR, CABARET), they know what a special experience a WBCT show on the beach can be. Moonlight on the water, food trucks, a festive audience, and some of the best voices in local theater all in one special evening in Wickford. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and anything else to make an August night on the beach comfortable. For this show, WBCT encourages audience members to dress for the period and if your costume is cool enough for the Pink Ladies and the Burger Palace Boys, you may even win a prize!
WBCT President Terry Shea says, “Last summer’s production of CABARET-IN-CONCERT was a game changer for us. Not only did we draw a record audience for one of our shows (well over 300 attended and ticket sales are already trending to go higher than that) we introduced the addition of 4 large video screens across the expanse of the lawn. This multimedia enhancement gives everyone a chance to see performers’ faces close up as well as view imagery that will enhance the concert setting and draw everyone into the world of this show.” 
Alongside this rock concert-meets-musical theater setting, audience members will be able to take advantage of two of the region’s award-winning food trucks, Gansett Poke and Mumsies Ice Cream. Also on hand for burgers, hot dogs and more is NK beach’s own Saugy Shack. There will also be themed gift basket auctions and a 50/50 raffle. 
And while the “in-concert” setting means the focus is more on the music than the script, be ensured that there is enough choreography and production value to make this show a fully satisfying night at the theater. Fans of this classic musical are in for a real treat as GREASE gets the unique WBCT treatment.

Wickford Art Association, 36 Beach St, North Kingstown, RI

As part of the Wickford Art Association’s (WAA) 61 years of continued commitment to the community and the celebration of the 350th Anniversary of North Kingstown, we are happy to announce the artists chosen for our second Community Mural Project: WAA member Misty Rae Marshall, student artist Chenghui Lui of North Kingstown High School, and Frank Monteforte were selected to paint their artwork for the mural. Misty Rae, Chenghui and Frank will be awarded $500 each for their artwork. The mural selection committee was impressed by the quality of the artwork submitted by all and thankful for such thoughtful artist submissions. 
The WAA Community Mural project was inspired to: 
Activate the exterior of the Wickford Art Association’s edifice by creating a large outdoor installation.
Engage the community around the Wickford Art Association with thought provoking art.
Encourage artists to explore their ideas and work within the context of public art
Support and Invest in local artists and showcase their work prominently in NK and RI
Empower youth artists and grow the local art community
This year’s focus aligns with the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the founding of North Kingstown. The design concept of “Then &amp; Now” aims to increase the awareness of and connect people to the rich history and innovative future of the Town of North Kingstown. Artists were encouraged to be bold, inspired, graphic, and impactful up close and when viewed from a distance. The murals were painted on three panels on the exterior of the WAA gallery and face the town beach for the enjoyment of the public. The project was open to members of the Wickford Art Association and students of North Kingstown High School. 
Misty Rae’s panel includes iconography and vibrant 3D style where it is painted like a "photo" hanging on the side of the building with those things of "then" falling into the "now." Misty Rae wrote “I would love for people to question what they're seeing and feel compelled to walk up and see what's going on. My personal work lives in the realm of trompe l'oeil meets animated.” Chenghui’s panel is organic and free. She expressed that “there is an inseparable relationship between the community and nature. We grow around the ocean and coexist with nature. We can be fish in the sea or docked butterflies. We can be anything we want here.” Frank was inspired by a long history of fishing with his family on Narragansett Bay. He wrote, “My dad was a fisherman. My friend's dads are fishermen. What does this have to do with the mural in In Wickford? The then and now. I want people to remember that this natural environment that we have is fragile, precious and we need to take care of it.”
The “Grand Unveiling” and celebration of the Community Mural Project will be Tuesday, August 20th from 4:00pm – 5:00pm. Artists worked with Mary Ann Thorne to learn all aspects of creating and painting a mural and are excited to celebrate completion of the project with family, friends and the community. The Wickford Art Association would like to thank the following: the Community Mural Jury Committee for their time and dedication to this project, the North Kingstown High School Art Department, Adler’s Hardware in Providence for materials, and the North Kingstown Arts Council for their support and assistance in this exciting initiative.

Knights of Columbus

Help! I am looking for folks to participate in a Zumbathon® charity fundraiser on August 24 in Middletown, Rhode Island. The little girl in the photo is Indy Littlefield. She just turned 4 and loves to dance! She is the granddaughter of one of my Zumba® students. A few weeks ago she had surgery to remove a brain tumor. She has since been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. Beginning in July, she started radiation and chemotherapy with a long road ahead. All proceeds from the event will go to Indy and her family. 

So, who can help? Dancing not required - this event is suitable for everyone! You can purchase raffle tickets and cheer on the folks dancing!
The date is August 24 from 1 – 5pm (dancing from 2 - 4pm) at the Middletown RI Knights of Columbus Hall, 7 Valley Rd, Middletown RI 02842 
$20 suggested donation - raffles and light refreshments
