Austin Airport Adds Four Round-Trip Amsterdam Flights For SXSW Travel

Chamber officials praise new service, including a code share agreement between Delta and Aeromexico on Mexico City flights.

AUSTIN, TX — Delta Air Lines on Monday announced four nonstop round-trip flights between Amsterdam's Airport Schiphol and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport during SXSW.

Scheduled on March 8, 9, 14 and 18, 2018, these flights will be operated using Boeing 767-300 aircraft with 225 seats, enabling almost 1,000 fans to fly nonstop to attend the SXSW festival, ABIA officials said. Operated in conjunction with Delta’s codeshare partners, Air France, KLM and Alitalia, the flights from Amsterdam will seamlessly connect with services from across the carriers’ joint European network, including Paris, Frankfurt and Rome.

Delta and KLM flights are available to book on the airlines’ respective websites, by calling Reservations on +31 (0)20 721 9128 or via travel agents. U.S. customers may book flights by calling 1-800-221-1212 or on www.delta.com .

“Events like the SXSW always attract thousands of international visitors so it’s important for Delta to meet the demands of our customers by offering special flights to these events,” said Dwight James, Delta’s senior vice president, Transatlantic. “This is one benefit of both our large fleet and partnership with KLM – we can schedule services across our network as demand dictates, whether that’s a summer seasonal service or these flights to Austin.”

Jim Smith, the executive director of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, noted the ease with which travelers will be able to attend SXSW as a result of the bolstered flights: “Delta’s AUS-AMS flights will make it even easier for global customers to experience SXSW, which last year saw 400,000+ attendees at this convergence of music, interactive, and film industries,” he said

The chairman of the Austin Chamber of Commerce applauded the move, praising both the addition of the four round-trip direct flights between Austin and Amsterdam and the code share program with Aeromexico on Mexico City flights.

“Delta’s announcement that they will offer direct flights between Austin and Amsterdam during SXSW 2018 is a major victory for the Central Texas region, Dough Driskill, chairman of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, said. "These four round-trip flights will serve as an additional gateway into Austin for employers, entrepreneurs, and influencers from Europe during SXSW and provide greater exposure for all that our region offers.

"We encourage Austin-based employers to take advantage of this opportunity to showcase their businesses to those who will be travelling to Austin, and to deepen engagement with this critical European market."

On the code share initiative, Driskill added: "The Chamber also is glad that the direct flight on Aeromexico to Mexico City is now a Code Share with Delta Air Lines, furthering Delta's commitment to the Austin market. Mexico City is an important trade partner to the Austin region."
