Give "Power to the Pink" at Broad Run Oct. 17

Broad Run's Breast Cancer Awareness campaign wraps up with a finale at the school's home football game Friday, Oct. 17.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Broad Run High School DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) students will conduct an annual campaign to create understanding among students and the community starting Oct. 13. The weeklong campaign wraps up Friday, Oct. 17 during the Spartans’ home football game against the Briar Woods High School Falcons at 7 p.m.

Each year, the theme plays on some variation of pink, the color associated with breast cancer awareness. Past themes have included “Got Pink?,” “Rock the Pink” and “Pink’d.” This year, DECA students chose “Power to the Pink.”

Students are encourages to wear “Power to the Pink” shirts that will be sold at the game for $12 as well as Broad Run High School and Farmwell Station Middle School throughout the week.

Raffle tickets, baked goods, cotton candy and more will be for sale, with all proceeds and donations going to the Loudoun Breast Health Network. This year, students hope to raise over $10,000 and encourage the community to help reach their “10 for 10” goal.

This year’s “Power to the Pink” campaign, sponsored by Broad Run DECA, also includes community activities throughout the school week to raise breast cancer awareness. On Thursday, Oct. 16, supporters will be “pinking” out Ashburn by decorating the outside of their homes in anything and everything pink.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, Broad Run High School will host their first annual Cheerleading Invitational, “Spartans BELIEVE in a Cure,” in conjunction with DECA’s pink week. An Annual Breast Cancer Fundraiser will be held Oct. 25 at Fitwize 4 Kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. FOr more information, follow the campaign on Twitter at @power2thepink.
