Burke Marine's Fidelis Beer Company Aims to Give Back

Marine-owned brewery recently launched creates Marine Corps birthday brew, "1775," for Marine Corps anniversary coming up Monday.

A Burke man has launched the Fidelis Beer Company aimed at exploring the Marines’ history with beer and giving back to charitable causes with each beer label, according to a news release about the new company from PR Newswire.

Brian Magee, a husband, father, Marine and lawyer who lives in Burke, launched his beer company over the summer and is already enjoying some success with his flagship beer, a farmhouse ale, according to the news release. The beer achieved a 95/100 rating on BeerAdvocate—a consumer-based rating system for beer.

Magee is drawing on the Marine Corps’ interesting history with beer. Born by an act of Congress on Nov. 10, 1775, the Corps’ first recruiting station was in a Philadelphia tavern. Brian was inspired by other breweries like Dogfish Head to create his take on what those first Marines would have been drinking in Tun Tavern. The result is an old ale appropriately named “1775.” The beer will be a once-a-year seasonal batch brewed specifically in celebration of the Marine Corps Birthday. It’s available for purchase online.

In furthering their mission to craft “world-class beers for world-class causes,” Fidelis Beer Company partnered with the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund as the beneficiary of proceeds from this beer. “Our goal is that during the season of the Marine Corps Birthday, we could offer a way for today’s Marines to collectively enjoy the nostalgia of ‘sharing a beer’ with those who have gone before us while helping our brothers and sisters who have been most affected by the service our freedom demands,” says Magee.

While yesterday’s Marines had to buy their beer in a tavern, Fidelis Beer Company has partnered with a retailer to take orders online and ship to a handful of states outside their home base of Virginia.
