Assault On Inmate At Fairfax Jail Leads To Former Deputy Being Charged

FAIRFAX, VA — A formers Fairfax County Sheriff's deputy is facing an assault charge in connection with an Jan. 1 incident in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, according to Police.

The internal affairs division in the sheriff's office contacted the Fairfax County Police Department on Jan. 3, reporting that a deputy had assaulted an inmate following an argument in the jail's booking area. The incident took place around 3:45 a.m.

Following an investigation, detectives from the FCPD's Major Crimes Bureau charged 28-year-old Nicholas Vaszil of Annandale with simple assault, according to police. The sheriff's office terminated Vazil's employment on Jan. 30.
