Leesburg Restaurant Inspections: Violations At 11 Locations

The Loudoun County Health Department found violations at 11 restaurants in the Leesburg area during their recent routine inspections.

LEESBURG, VA —Officials from the Loudoun County Health Department inspected multiple restaurants across the Leesburg area from Sept. 22 to Sept. 28, including 11 different locations with violations.

As coronavirus restrictions continue to fluctuate around the state, health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

Here are the most recent restaurant inspections in the Leesburg area, according to the Loudoun County Health Department.

  • MacDowell Brew Kitchen, 202-B Harrison St Se Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: Sept. 24
    • Total violations: 6
      • The bar has no hand sink for staff to wash hands.
      • Shellfish tags are being maintained but not date marked.
      • Boxes of raw fish were observed stored over live shellfish in reach-in cooler.
      • Packages of unsalted butter and cut greens were observed stored in cooler with an intern al temperature above 41°F.
      • Several containers of pulled pork were observed with a date mark of 9/8 which is 10 days past the day of use /discard.
      • Raw wooden floor was observed at back bar area. The bar is open on one side which allows pest to enter.
  • Atomic Trampoline Fun Center, 1604 Village Market Blvd SE #110 Leesburg, VA 20175
    • Date inspected: Sept. 24
    • Total violations: 7
      • Management, food employees or conditional employees were not aware or informed of their responsibilities in reporting symptoms or diagnosis of diseases transmissable through food.
      • The establishment could not demonstrate the ability to provide written procedures for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events that involve the discharge of vomitus or fecal matter onto surfaces in the food establishment.
      • Observed the hand sink having no access to soap
      • Observed hand sink without paper towels.
      • Observed ice machine with dirt and grime.
      • Observed the 1 door reach in cooler (45F) not maintaining 41F or below. The PIC said the hot holding unit was not working.
      • The PIC could not provide test strips for the 3 compartment sink.

    • Date inspected: Sept. 24
    • Total violations: 3
      • Employee drinking beverage from twist off jar.
      • Observed: Raw shell eggs stored above partially open 5 gallon soy sauce container.
      • Observed: Containers that are not food grade (#10 ketchup cans, oysters sauce cans) are being used as storage containers for food items
  • Lovettsville Game Protective Assocation, 16 S. Berlin Pike Lovettsville, VA 20180
    • Date inspected: Sept. 25
    • Total violations: 1
      • Observed improper hot holding of sausage at 104F and 116F.
  • Grandale Farm Restaurant, 14001 Harpers Ferry Road Purcellville, VA 20132

      • Observed flies coming from outside and enter kitchen via back entrance due to back door is open. No screen door is observed.
      • Observed walk-in cooler floor and prep sandwich cooler floor inside units to not be clean with food debris. Water and old whole tomatoes were observed on the walk-in cooler floor. Observed water and mozz cheese in the prep sandwich cooler floor

      • Observed can opener in need of cleaning.
      • Observed several damp wiping clothes on surfaces of equipment.

      • Observed raw shell eggs on top of ready to eat food chicken breast in reach prep cooler.

      • 2 door refrigeration unit maintaining TCS foods at proper temperatures. Violation corrected.

      • The following foods were made yesterday and were observed with internal temperatures above 41°F; beans & cheese, cheese, rice.
      • Rice was observed hot holding with an internal temperature of 126°F.

      • Observed no verifiable manner that food employees are aware to report to the person in charge information about their health and activities as they relate to diseases that are transmissible through food.
      • Observed 3 compartment sink supplied with over 200 PPM Chlorine.

      • Observed no certified food protection manager.
