JCPenney Closing in Manassas This April

Local store was one of 40 closings announced this week.

There will be one less large department store at Manassas Mall this spring. JCPenney announced this week that the local store would be one of 40 closing their doors.

The Washington Business Journal notes that 2,250 employees will be impacted nationwide. No other stores in the area were on the list of JCPenney closings.

The stores will close on or about April 4.

A spokesperson with the company told InsideNova that there may be opportunities to relocate employees to nearby stores and assistance will be given to others in finding new employment.

This isn’t first anchor store to exit. Target closed its store in early 2013.

Last year, Pyramid Management Group took over leasing operations at the mall.
