More Vaccine Clinics Announced As Coronavirus Cases Rise

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — The Prince William Health District announced new coronavirus vaccine clinics to be held in August. The clinics will offer the Pfizer and Modern coronavirus vaccine, in addition to other shots for students returning to classrooms this month.

The clinics were announced just days after the Virginia Department of Health said they would begin offering third doses of the coronavirus vaccines to immunocompromised people. The Prince William Health District did not say whether this month's clinics will offer third doses.

Coronavirus cases in Prince William County are still elevated as the virus's delta variant continues to spread. On Monday, Aug. 16, the county reported 60 new cases. 6 more hospitalizations related to the virus were also reported.

In Prince William County, schools reopen for in-person learning on Monday, Aug. 23. Schools in the City of Manassas have already welcomed students; their first day was on Thursday, Aug. 12.

But as the delta variant spreads throughout the state, only 18.6 percent of people under the age of 18 in Prince William County are fully vaccinated. All children aged 12 or older are eligible for the vaccine, but less than 50 percent of kids aged 12 to 15 are fully vaccinated in Prince William County.
