MANASSAS, VA — Osbourn Park High School's own Principal Lisamarie Kane was named the 2024 Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals.

Kane has been with Prince William County Public Schools for 16 years and Osbourn Park High School's principal since 2020. She previously served as assistant principal at Gar-Field High School from 2015 to 2020.

According to PWCS, the award "honors principals who have exhibited extraordinary leadership, commitment to their students and faculty, service to their communities and contributions to the overall profession, including their professional associations." The Outstanding High School Principal award was decided by a panel of principals and superintendents on the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals' Principal Awards Committee.

"Lisamarie has created a foundation of excellence at Osbourn Park High School, and this recognition attests to her unyielding commitment to her students and staff," said PWCS Superintendent LaTanya McDade in a statement. "We are proud to have a PWCS leader represented as VASSP’s Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia."

Kane had discovered a passion for teaching while working on research as a scientist in the food industry. She altered her career path with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in food science from the University of Florida to receive a certificate in advanced graduate studies in education leadership from the University of New England.

She taught chemistry and biology for 10 years before becoming an assistant principal overseeing special education, science and mathematics. According to PWCS, Kane is passionate about minimizing barriers to learning and sees students as "at promise" rather than "at risk."

Kane will be honored at the Virginia Middle and High School Principals Conference & Exposition in June.
