Paris Summer Olympics 2024: Rower From McLean On Team USA

MCLEAN, VA — Fifteen athletes from Virginia have qualified for the Paris Summer Olympic Games as Team USA continues to take shape.

Among those 15 Virginians is 27-year-old Claire Collins of McLean, who is a member of the U.S. Women's Rowing Team.

Daughter of Steve and Patti Collins, the Olympic athlete competed in volleyball, swimming and rowing all four of her years in high school. A graduate of Princeton University, Claire Collins is a three-time All-American and four-time All-Ivy recipient.

More than 10,500 athletes from around the world will compete in the Paris Summer Olympic Games, officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, between the opening ceremony on July 26 and the closing ceremony on Aug 11.

Included among the 32 sports are gymnastics, swimming, diving, track and field, archery, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, golf, tennis and wrestling.

One new sport — breaking, described by the Olympics as a “young, acrobatic and urban sport” with American roots — will be added this year.

Back for a second time are three sports that debuted in the Tokyo Summer 2020 Olympics — sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing.

Other athletes from Virginia who have qualified for the Summer Olympic Games are:

• Will Coleman of Gordonsville is a member of the Equestrian team. He competed in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
• Leah Crouse of Virginia Beach is a member of the Field Hockey team has been a Leader of Community Service for Duke field hockey since 2019.
• Justin Dowell of Virginia Beach is a member of the Cycling team. He was a member of the 2020 Olympic Team.
• Greg Duncan of Oakton is a member of the Diving team. He began diving at the age of 12.
• Emily Fox of Ashburn is on the U.S. Soccer team. She attended the University North Carolina and was the All-ACC and All-America selection for the Tar Heels.
• Thomas Heilman of Crozet is a member of the U.S. Swimming team. He is the youngest swimmer since Michael Phelps to qualify for Team USA.
• Grant Holloway of Chesapeake is on the Track and Field team. He won a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
• Hadley Husisian of Oakton is a member of the Fencing team. The 20-year-old was introduced to the sport via the Nickelodeon show "iCarly."
• Torri Huske of Arlington is a member of the Swimming team. She won a silver medal as part of the 4 x 100 Medley Relay - Women team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
• Noah Lyles of Alexandria is a member of the Track and Field team. He won a bronze medal for the 200m division at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
• Kevin Paredes of South Riding is a member of the U.S. Soccer team. He currently plays for VfL Wolfsburg.
• Charlie Swanson of Richmond is a member of the Swimming team. The 26-year-old is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
• Christian Tabash of Alexandria is on the U.S. Rowing team. A graduate of Harvard University, he discovered rowing while watch the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
• Griffin Yow of Clifton is a member of the U.S. Soccer team. After signing with the D.C. United in 2019, he made his MLS debut in a 2019 match against New York City.

Paris also hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924. The Summer 2024 Paralympic Games, also held in Paris, will take place from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8.

More qualifying events will be held in the coming weeks.

NBC and its affiliated channels again have exclusive U.S. broadcasting rights. The network has said it will provide at least nine hours of daytime coverage during the Paris Games, including live broadcasts of favorite event finals. The NBC streaming service Peacock will provide coverage of every sport and event. The full broadcast and streaming schedules haven’t been announced yet.
