Showplace Icon Theatre Tysons Sets Opening Date At The Boro

A soft opening in the days before Showplace Icon Theatre's debut will feature free movies.

TYSONS, VA — The Showplace Icon Theatre Tysons will debut at The Boro development in March following a soft opening from Friday, Feb. 28 to Wednesday, March 4. The official opening date is Friday, March 6 at 1667 Silver Hill Dr, McLean.

The soft opening from will feature free movies for the public. Customers can sign up for the free Extra Club Members program to get free popcorn and drinks during the soft opening.

Showplace Icon Theatre is run by Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatres, a family-owned chain dating back to 1909. The Showplace Icon brand emerged in 2009 to create luxury theaters. The Tysons location is the seventh ShowPlace ICON Theatre to open.

"The ever-growing Tysons neighborhood seemed like the perfect choice when deciding where to plant our roots in the Washington, DC metropolitan area," said ShowPlace Icon CEO Tony Kerasotes. "By aligning ourselves with one of Tysons’ newest multi-phase developments, The Boro, we were able to create a premier destination like no other."

The 72,000-square-foot Showplace Icon Theatre features 14 auditoriums seating a total of 1,795 guests. Options range from the 226-seat auditorium with Dolby Atmos sound to a smaller, 45-seat auditorium. The theaters have reclining seats with two heating levels and adjustable headrests.

In between movies, guests can dine at the Icon Bistro, serving up an American style cuisine menu. Those over 21 can visit the Lobby Lounge, which offers upscale snacks and entrees, as well as movie concessions and selection of craft cocktails, wine, and craft beer. A selection of small plates for in-theater dining is available.

Showplace Icon Theatre has a few seating and ticketing rules guests should know before they go. Tickets are required for all guests, including infants two and under. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent of guardian to G, PG and PG-13 rated films before 8 p.m. and will only be allowed at G and PG films with a parent or guardian after 8 p.m. Guests under 18 won't be allowed in R rated films at any time. In addition, seating will stop once the movie starts to prevent disruptions.

The theater is located at The Boro about a mile from the AMC at Tysons Corner Center. The multi-phase Boro development features residential, retail and office uses. Numerous restaurants have opened, and a few more are slated for the summer.
