Joe Theismann’s Restaurant Unveils Renovations In Alexandria

The newly renovated restaurant held a 70th birthday celebration for former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — As construction got underway inside the King Street Metro this summer, a longtime Alexandria restaurant across the street began its own renovations. Joe Theismann’s Restaurant, the namesake of the Redskins quarterback, has reopened with a new look.

The restaurant celebrated the renovations and Theismann’s 70th birthday with a "Cheers to the Next 30 Years" bash on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Among the attendees were alumni Redskins Cheerleaders who cheered when he played.

The 7,800 square-foot restaurant brings new menu items along with a new design. Among the new choices are Reuben Fries with thick-cut fries melted swiss, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and corned beef; DC-area Half-Smoke Sandwich with locally produced sausages, house chili and beer cheese on a pretzel bun; and new custom-aged prime steaks.

The new design incorporates a football theme with Theismann memorabilia, soft brown leather banquettes, lounge seating areas, turf green walls and island bar.

"These new changes represent the evolution of Theismann's and I am so pleased in how the space turned out," said Theismann in a statement. "The Alexandria Restaurant Partners team did a wonderful job in bringing the new vision to life and will continue to give our loyal customers a quality experience, while we introduce Theismann's to a new generation of diners who seek a casual and modern energetic ambiance."
