Connolly Declared Winner In 11th District Primary Race: AP

VIRGINIA — Incumbent U.S. Rep. Gerald Connolly was declared the winner in Tuesday's Democratic Party Primary in the 11th District by the Associated Press, which made the announcement at 7:54 p.m.

Connolly defeated fellow Democrat Ahsan Nasar on Tuesday, according to unofficial results. With the victory, Connolly will face Republican Mike Van Meter in the Nov. 5 election.

• Ahsan Nasar (D) - 5,097 (13.98%)

Van Meter was the only Republican running in the 11th District race, so he did not participate in Tuesday's GOP primary.

Election officials are tallying the results in Virginia's dual party primary, which had separate Democratic and Republican ballots.

The Democratic primary included races in the 7th, 10th and 11th Congressional Districts.

Tuesday's Democratic Party primary was the first Connolly has participated in since he defeated challenger Zainab Mohsini in 2020. The closest thing he had to a previous primary as a congressional candidate was in 2018. In that race, Jonathan Park withdrew and the primary was cancelled.

In addition, five candidates are competing in the Republican primary on Tuesday for U.S. Senate to determine who will run against Sen. Tim Kaine (D) and independent Jonathan Hardin in November.
