Registration Open for 12th Annual 5K to Benefit Nature House, Friends of Reston

Twelfth-annual event set for April 11.

Get ready for the 12th Annual 5K Fund Run to Benefit Nature House and The Friends of Reston. Registration is now open for the run, set for Saturday, April 11.

The 5K course is run on mostly paved walkways through neighborhoods and wooded parkland, organizers note.

While walkers and children are welcome, pets or strollers are not permitted.

Post-race festivities include an awards ceremony, refreshments and a random prize drawing. T-shirts will be given to all pre-registered participants and walk-ins as supplies last. Overall and age group medals will be awarded in 10-year groups. The top overall finishers and participants 12 and under also receive prizes.

Packet pick-up will be held Friday, April 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Walker Nature Center’s Nature House at 11450 Glade Drive in Reston, site of the race. Walk-in registration and packet pick-up will also be available on race day, beginning at 7 a.m.

Race start time is 8 a.m.

Friends of Reston has raised more than $1.5M for the funding of its flagship project, Nature House. Nature House is a year-round environmental education building located at the Walker Nature Center on Glade Drive. The building opened in November of 2009. It is LEED Gold certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. Other projects include funding for:
