This was the reality for one of our patients Chais. At six months pregnant, living in the community of Pamplona in Lima, Peru, Chais was walking down one of the many steep unpaved hills near her house. She slipped and fell on her stomach, inducing early labor and a premature birth for her daughter Eiselith. Eiselith was born with heart and lung issues which required special treatment, a lot of which was expensive and difficult to access due to Chais living in a rural, low-income area. The Follow-Up Program is a key component to our process that ensures people who have received medical care through our mobile clinics or health programs continue to receive the necessary care for their well-being. After an initial consultation, our team is responsible for ongoing follow-up, contacting patients to check their progress, coordinating additional appointments if needed, and ensuring they are following medical recommendations. This process is crucial to ensuring patients complete their treatment and receive appropriate long-term care, especially in communities where access to healthcare services are limited.
