Blair Underwood Reveals the ‘Simple’ Way He and His Wife Josie Hart Celebrated Their 1-Year Wedding Anniversary

Blair Underwood and his wife Josie Hart love the simple things in life.

The 59-year-old actor, who is promoting his new film Longlegs, revealed on Live with Kelly and Mark on Thursday, July 18 that he recently celebrated his one-year anniversary with his wife by taking time out of their hectic schedules to relax together.

“We travel a lot so we kind of are very tired, and it was actually her idea, she said, ‘Let’s just watch our wedding video for our anniversary, go out to dinner and just keep it simple. Keep it easy,’ ” he recalled, noting that’s exactly what they did. 

“That’s actually the ideal [one year anniversary],” host Kelly Ripa, 53, responded.

Underwood also shared some details from his romantic June 24 wedding in the Dominican Republic to Hart, including how their wedding guest list expanded to become “much bigger” than either of them anticipated.

“We started with— it was just going to be us and our kids. We have nine kids between us. I have three, she has six. So it’s a big family,” he shared. “And then it was like, ‘Okay the grandkids and then spouses.’ And it grew. So it was much bigger than we expected.”

However, he noted that “it was such a beautiful time.”

Underwood wore a custom ivory wool and silk ISAIA tuxedo with a jacquard patterned evening jacket and evening trousers, while Hart wore a custom couture gown designed by Nneka C. Alexander, which featured a fitted trumpet silhouette and a detachable overskirt with a cathedral length train for the big event.

Hart described their nuptials in an exclusive with PEOPLE as “surreal and magical.” "His vows, to hear him say the words he said to me for our forever was incredible,” she said. “Between our children and all of them giving toasts, the fireworks right after our first dance, the entire day was just beyond my expectations."

The couple met when Underwood was 16, and they enjoyed a friendship for more than 40 years before they started dating after their respective divorces. Underwood proposed in October 2022, writing on Instagram that Hart is “the most amazing, brilliant, beautiful, hilarious, thought provoking & insightful person I know.” 

The Three Women actor will next appear on the big screen in the horror film Longlegs, where he plays an F.B.I agent. Underwood shared on Live with Kelly and Mark that although it was his “first horror film” he wants to do more.

“I want to do a horror film every year,” he said. “Oh man, I had so much fun.”

Longlegs is currently out in theaters.
