Olympic Skater Adam Rippon Reveals the Title and Cover of His New Memoir, 'Beautiful on the Outside' : Readers 'Will find a Lot of Humor in the Way I Grew Up'

Figure skater Adam Rippon has conquered the Olympics, Dancing with the Stars and Twitter. His next adventure? A memoir coming this fall.

As he exclusively revealed on PEOPLE Now, it will be called Beautiful on the Outside — and he also debuted the cover!

“I think we’re all told and we all feel like everything going on inside, [we] need to kind of keep it in and really put out this image of everything’s going great and everything’s perfect,” Rippon, 29, explained of the title.

“I think when you’re able to kind of laugh at that and see past that, you’re able to really have the best experience on the outside because you truly know what you’re doing and you’re doing it for the right reasons,” he said.

Why write a book? He quipped, “I’ve had friends that have written books before and they said it felt a lot like therapy. And I was thinking, I could use therapy. … It’s really a win-win.”

Speaking with PEOPLE earlier this month, Rippon said that while being a memoirist, among his other achievements, was “so fun” — it was not as easy as it might sound. (And it doesn’t sound easy.)

“I know that I’m gonna sound like an idiot, but I didn’t think it was gonna be as hard as it is,” he said. “There’s so many things where you’re like, ‘Oh I forgot about that,’ or you don’t wanna miss anything or put things in the wrong order or put things in there that you think happened that didn’t happen.

“My only witness at some of these events is me as a 10-year-old, and I can tell you I’m probably not that reliable.”

Of the stories he’ll share in Beautiful on the Outside, Rippon teases: “I think the one thing I’m really excited to read is to learn about me as a young [person], ’cause I think a lot of people were introduced to me at the Olympics and they see this fully grown, evolved, big-mouthed kid from Pennsylvania who lives in L.A. now and that’s amazing.”

“But,” he continued, “I think they will find a lot of humor in the way I grew up and in my family situations and different situations I got into and the characters and people I’ve had throughout my life — not only shaped who I was, but also the sense of humor I have now and how I’ve used humor to get through tough times.”

Beautiful on the Outside will be released this fall.
