Real estate developer Brandon Miller died in July days after being found unresponsive from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning in his car at his home in the Hamptons, PEOPLE confirms.

The 43-year-old husband of Mama & Tata influencer and lifestyle blogger Candice Miller was taken to a local hospital late on June 30 after being discovered by first responders who were alerted by a carbon monoxide alarm at the home, an incident report from the Southampton Fire Department states.

At the time, Brandon did not have a pulse, according to the fire department.

He was subsequently placed on life support at the hospital, The New York Times reported, and he died on July 3.

The Times, citing law enforcement sources, described Brandon's death as a suicide and said he left a note for his family.

According to the paper, Brandon had been struggling with extensive financial pressures, including millions in loans and mortgages, and had also taken out life insurance policies.

A Miller family spokesperson told the Times that Candice was "devastated by the loss of her soul mate, and her two young daughters’ lives are forever impacted by the loss of their beloved daddy.”

Maurley Miller, Brandon's sister, likewise told the Times in her own statement that she has "a hole in my heart that will never be filled. I am completely devastated."

(The family did not respond to PEOPLE's requests for comment while Suffolk County Police did not share additional information. A spokesperson for the county's medical examiner’s office said they could not comment on the death.)

Brandon and Candice met as kids and married in 2009, per E! News. They have two children.

While speaking to Mini Magazine in 2019, Candice shared her love for her husband and daughters as she spoke about what "a typical day" would look like juggling work and her family life.

"On most days, what I really look forward to is arriving home, and sitting for dinners with my husband and my girls, followed by some very yummy snuggles before bedtime, where we all profess our love for one another over and over again," she said then.

Candice ran a lifestyle website with her sister Jenna Crespi, though since Brandon's death the website no longer appears active.
