Common might have one regret about being out of town for Memorial Day weekend: not getting to meet John Legend and Chrissy Teigen‘s baby Luna.

“I haven’t met Luna yet, but I will,” he told PEOPLE about his friends’ almost two-month old baby girl. “I told (John) I have to see her soon because I missed out on a barbecue they were having for Memorial Day and that was the opportunity that I would have had to see her for the first time.”

The rapper and actor was in his hometown of Chicago to promote and participate in a student round table discussion for XQ: The Super School Project, an organization that looks to serve as “an open call to rethink and redesign the American high school.” Other world-renowned musicians, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma, were talking to high school kids about their experiences, hopes and aspirations. At the event, Common talked to PEOPLE about some of his upcoming projects.

Even though he missed out on Legend’s barbecue, he is not missing out on the chance to collaborate with him again. Last year, the musical duo took home the Oscar for Best Original Song for “Glory” from the film Selma. And Common said there’s another in the works.

“I love him,” Common said about Legend. “We just created a new song that he just gave to me last night that’s beautiful. I’m excited about it.”

But could this collab be about Legend’s beautiful new baby?

“No, it’s something else that we worked on together,” he said. “But nothing’s greater than Luna.”

Common stars as Rashad in the third installment of the Barbershop films, starring Ice Cube and is in the highly-anticipated super villain movie out this summer, Suicide Squad. For more information on XQ: The Super School Project, visit their website here.
