Kevin Jonas on Jonas Brothers Split: 'I Just Got Really Depressed for a While'

The former Jonas Brothers member says he misses touring and mourned the loss of the band

Breaking up is hard, and a band breaking up isn’t any easier.

Just ask Kevin Jonas, who opened up about the end of Jonas Brothers in an interview Wednesday.

“Notice how when [the Jonas Brothers] went dark, we went dark. We didn’t do a single interview, we didn’t talk to anybody, we just went dark,” he recalled while speaking to Elvis Duran on the Z100 Morning Show.

“I just got really depressed for a while,” Jonas continued. “There’s a mourning process!”

And although Jonas, 27, told Duran that he was certain the October 2013 decision to end the band was the right one for all involved, he missed certain aspects of his former life. “I miss touring,” he said. “I miss seeing people on the road. I miss that adrenaline rush, there’s nothing like it. When you go out on stage and you greet the crowd, there’s nothing like it.”

Jonas said he’s now in a different phase of his life. “It’s just like showing you how Alena drank out of a straw for the first time,” he said, referring to his daughter, who is now 15 months old. “I’m more excited about that than anything else I have going on!”

He also put to rest the notion that he is jealous of his brother Nick, 22, and his recent solo success.

“I don’t know how many times I literally hear this,” he said of the persistent rumors. “It’s the worst pun in the world from some idiotic frat guy. It’s like, ‘You must be ‘Jealous’ of Nick!’ Constantly! It’s like, why? He’s doing his thing. I’m doing mine! He’s happy. I’m happy.”

Jonas, who was promoting his restaurant-finding app Yood!, also gave some advice to Zayn Malik about how to successfully quit a teen sensation pop band.

“In the midst of that intensity, he should go dark for a long time,” Jonas said. “You gotta go dark for at least six weeks! Like, underground, you gotta go hard, like you’re done. You have to let the dust clear. Anything you do then will be scrutinized.”
