Nate Berkus is mourning the loss of his father Michael Berkus, who has died at age 69.

“Last week my father, Michael Berkus, lost a short-lived battle with brain cancer,” the interior designer wrote on Instagram. “He was the most generous and funny man and my stepmother and brothers are devastated.”

Along with a touching tribute, Berkus, 44, shared one of his favorite photos of the father-son pair.

“This picture of us was taken at my wedding to Jeremiah in May 2014,” he captioned the image. “He was the only one who could make me laugh when I was as nervous as I was on that special day.”

The former Nate Berkus Show host’s wedding to designer and TV personality Jeremiah Brent was the first time a same-sex couple had married at the iconic New York Public Library.

Michael passed away on Nov. 20 at his home in Villa Park, California, according to an obituary shared on Point Press.

“He was well known for his sense of humor and generosity and will be missed by all who knew him.”

Michael is survived by his sister Vicky, wife Sher, six sons and six grandchildren, including Berkus’ 8-month-old daughter Poppy.
