Like many grooms-to-be, Andrew East took a backseat on wedding planning while his future wife Shawn Johnson attended to every detail.

“She spent hours making it perfect,” he tells PEOPLE of the affair held Saturday at a private farm in Tennessee. But behind the scenes, East managed to keep one big secret from his gymnast bride.

Late in the night, after the 350 guests dined on sweet chili cornbread and bourbon braised short ribs – and after East, a long snapper signed by the Oakland Raiders, tossed a garter which had been wrapped around a gold-painted football – the NFL player revealed a hidden talent.

With his father accompanying him on a piano they had trucked in from the family home in Indianapolis, East, 24, serenaded his bride with Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”

Johnson watched her new husband in amazement and then, “halfway through the song, she walked up to him and melted into him,” says the couple s wedding planner, Sara Fried, of Fete Nashville. “She was so proud. She was mush.”

The NFL player “nailed it,” Fried says. “There was cheering. And a lot of kissing!”

It was just one of the special musical moments between the newlyweds. East, who did a dance step to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” as he walked up the aisle after the ceremony (“He’s such a goofball!” she says), joined Johnson on the packed dance floor with their nine bridesmaids and nine groomsmen.

Johnson, who took home the glitter ball trophy on season 8 of Dancing With the Stars, showed off her moves during a dance with her bridesmaids to Aretha Franklin’s “R-E-S-P-E-C-T”, but the couple kept it simple for their own first dance, to “Heaven’s Knife” by Josh Garrels.

“There was pressure to do it big because of her Dancing With the Stars experience,” East says. “But she said, ‘This is our wedding night and we don t have to do anything for anybody else so let’s just enjoy being in the moment with each other.’ I thought that was a great perspective.”
