Sheen, Richards Welcome a Baby Girl

Charlie Sheen’s wife, actress Denise Richards, gave birth to the couple’s first child in Los Angeles on March 9, a publicist for the “Two and a Half Men” star said in a statement issued Monday.

The baby, a girl the parents named Sam Sheen, weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz. at birth, and both mother and daughter “are doing great,” the statement said, according to Reuters.

Sheen (real name: Carlos Irwin Estevez), 38, has a 19-year-old daughter, Cassandra, from a previous relationship, with Paula Profit. His father is “The West Wing” star Martin Sheen, 63, and his brother is actor Emilio Estevez, 41.

Richards, 33, an Illinois native, was last seen in the horror spoof “Scary Movie 3.”

The couple married in June 2002. As PEOPLE reported, they first met while shooting the movie “Good Advice” in 2000. But it wasn’t until Richards guest starred on Sheen’s sitcom “Spin City” in fall of 2001 that a romance began to blossom.

On their first date, on Oct. 4, 2001, they hung out in Sheen’s condo to watch San Francisco Giant Barry Bonds tie the major league home run record. Between innings, Richards tried to steal first base. “I made the first move kissing him,” she said. “He was Mr. Polite, such a gentleman.”

By their second date, Richards recalled “I knew that this is the one, but I wouldn’t tell him that. I didn’t want to scare him away by saying, ‘You’re my future husband!’ and have him run for the hills.”

Over the next two months they discovered a mutual interest in yoga and a shared aversion to crowds. “We’re both very introverted,” said Sheen. Another point in their favor, said Richards: “We don’t try to change each other.”

Let’s see how the baby changes things.
