Steve Aoki Drops 'Azukita' Music Video, as Song Becomes Movement in the Zumba Community

The highly-anticipated music video for Steve Aoki’s “Azukita,” featuring Daddy Yankee, Play-N-Skillz and Elvis Crespo, is finally here. In the music video, Aoki and Yankee go head-to-head in a virtual reality dance battle game. In their VR world, it’s all about upbeat energy, color-soaked visuals and, of course, the fierce Zumba dancing that has inspired an international movement in the Zumba community. Fitness professionals and students of the popular exercise program are coordinating their high-energy moves with the hit song all over the Internet.

“It’s been crazy seeing all these dance and fitness videos being posted on Instagram to ‘Azukita,'” Aoki tells PEOPLE CHICA. “From Zumba instructors and students all over the world, fitness aficionados, social media influencers, and our fans; the response has been nothing short of overwhelming proving that Latin influence is really universal.”

“Azukita” is Aoki’s first Spanish-language track. “I’ve always gravitated to Latin artists — whether Yankee or Balvin or Bad Bunny, I look up to what they’re doing,” he told Billboard.

The Zumba love comes as no surprise to the Grammy-nominated producer and DJ, who, last year, teamed up with STRONG by Zumba, a high intensity interval training workout, where students attempt to sync their exercise moves to the music beats. In partnership with the fitness program, Aoki produced his own track for the franchise called “Champion.”

When the song was released last month, Daddy Yankee told PEOPLE CHICA that he knew they’d hit music gold when the track was finished: “It’s been super cool. Steve Aoki is very creative,” he said of his collaborator. “Play-N-Skillz and I had the track, we sent it to Aoki, and when he sent us back the song and we heard the drop, we knew he had a special song.”
