On Wednesday, Sony Pictures released the first trailer for its upcoming superhero movie Madame Web, which stars Johnson, 34, as a New York City paramedic named Cassandra Webb who begins seeing the future — and holds a startling personal connection to a mysterious company of Spider-Man-related characters. The trailer, set to Billie Eilish's hit song "bury a friend," meets Cassandra as she attempts to protect a trio of teenagers (including Sydney Sweeney) from a masked villain who looks suspiciously like Spider-Man. When the villain stabs Cassandra with a knife, she is brought back to the beginning of the encounter. Cassandra then recounts her life as a paramedic in Manhattan alongside a colleague played by Adam Scott. After a near-death experience on the job, Cassandra confesses to a doctor that she's experiencing visions of the future and begins to encounter both Sweeney's trio of friends and the man trying to kill them, whom she identifies as Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim).
